Leoniki Residence is set near the picturesque village of Marguerita in the Platanes area of the charming port of Rethymnon, in Crete. (Check out Google Maps: )
Located conveniently close to the fine beaches of the northwest coast and more or less midway between the historic capital of Heraklion and the port of Chania, the resort offers the ideal opportunity to explore the western side of Greece’s largest island.
Here, flowers bloom all year round in the wonderful year-round climate, yet along the backbone of Crete, the dramatic mountain peaks are often snow-capped throughout the winter. But wherever you go, you can be sure of a genuine welcome from these hospitable people.
Although the third largest city in Crete, Rethymnon has a relaxed atmosphere and is surely one of the most delightful destinations in all Greece, with its narrow, meandering streets leading to the sea and its pleasing architectural mixture of Turkish and Venetian buildings.
The promenade is lined with souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants – so perfect for people-watching! Nearby is the spectacular harbour of Souda Bay and a 45 minute bus ride outside the city is the famous 16th century Monastery of Arcadi, overlooking a craggy gorge.
While travelling west to the port of Chania, with its Venetian harbour wall, you can stop for a swim at one of the many beaches en route, and when you arrive, be sure to visit the large covered market and buy some of the rare local herb, dittany, which Cretans believe can cure just about anything!
